In the Photos app (a still drawing)

  1. Open Photos and tap the photo you want.
  2. Tap Edit, then tap Markup.
  3. Choose the pen, marker or pencil, pick a color, and draw. Use the lasso to move a line, or the eraser to rub one out.
  4. Tap Done, then Done again.

These are the steps in Apple’s own guide to Markup. Your drawing stays still.

In Tada (a drawing that moves)

  1. Open Tada, tap Draw and pick a photo.
  2. Draw on it with your finger: a crown, a heart, a little cloud.
  3. Choose My lines to keep your own lines and make them wiggle like a hand-drawn cartoon, free and made on your phone. Or choose Make it cute and AI turns your lines into a cute doodle that moves. It redraws only your lines, never your photo.
  4. Tap Save. The photo goes to Photos as a Live Photo with your doodle moving.
