Apps to make pictures move on iPhone
The right app depends on what you want to move: the people and pets in a photo, the water and sky, a whole design, or a Live Photo you already took. Here’s what each option does, described from its maker’s own pages, so you can pick.

Quick guide
| If you want to… | Try |
|---|---|
| Make people and pets in a photo move, kept as a Live Photo | Tada |
| Get a six-second AI video from a photo in Google Photos | Google Photos Photo to video |
| Choose exactly what flows, like water, clouds or hair | Motionleap |
| Animate a photo inside a post, slide or ad | Canva |
| Layer looping effects over a photo as a GIF or video | Werble |
| Animate faces in old family photos next to a family tree | MyHeritage Deep Nostalgia |
| Loop or bounce a Live Photo you already took | The Photos app |
Tada
Tada is an iPhone app that makes a photo from your camera roll move. Tap Make it Live and choose Breathe or Puff (free, made on your phone in about a second), or Natural or Lively (AI, 20–40 seconds: people blink, smile and turn their heads, pets look around). Add effects puts stickers on the person and Draw makes your doodles wiggle. Every result saves to Photos as a Live Photo, about 3 seconds long. It always starts from a photo, never a video.
Google Photos: Photo to video
In the Google Photos app, tap Create, then Photo to video, add a photo and pick Subtle movements or I’m feeling lucky, or type a prompt if you’re 18 or over. Google describes the results as six-second video clips. The photo has to be backed up to Google Photos, and the feature isn’t available in every region. More in Google Photos Photo to video.
Motionleap
Motionleap by Lightricks is hands-on. Its App Store page describes animating with taps and swipes: arrows set the direction, anchor points and a Freeze brush hold parts still, and there’s one-tap water animation, animated skies, camera moves and overlays. It suits photos where you want to control exactly what moves. See Motionleap vs Tada.
Canva
In Canva, select a photo and choose Animate for styles like Pan, Tumble and Zoom, or Create an Animation to drag it along your own path, then download a video or GIF. Canva’s Image to Video adds subtle AI motion as a 5-second clip, though Canva notes it doesn’t fully support face animation. It’s made for designs: posts, slides and ads. See Canva photo animation.
Werble
Werble’s App Store page describes blending animated art and special effects with your photos or artwork, with over 1000 effects, a roll-the-dice option to randomize the look, and both animated GIF and video output. It suits decorative loops layered over a picture.
MyHeritage, for old family photos
MyHeritage’s Deep Nostalgia animates one face at a time in an old photo, using pre-recorded videos of real gestures, and its LiveMemory feature in the MyHeritage app animates the whole scene. Both sit alongside MyHeritage’s family tree and photo repair tools.
The Photos app: Loop and Bounce
If your picture is already a Live Photo, open it in Photos, tap the Live Photo button near the top of the screen, then choose Loop, Bounce or Long Exposure. These effects work on Live Photos, so they can’t add motion to a plain still photo. A tada is a Live Photo, so you can loop one too.
Questions
Which app should I use to make a picture move?
It depends on what you want to move. For people and pets kept as a Live Photo, Tada; to control water and sky, Motionleap; for a design with text, Canva; for a Live Photo you already took, the Photos app’s Loop and Bounce.
Can I make a picture move without downloading an app?
On iPhone, the Photos app can loop or bounce a Live Photo, but it can’t make a still photo move. For that you need an app.
Do these apps work on Android?
Tada is iPhone only. Google Photos, Canva, Motionleap and MyHeritage say on their own pages that they have Android apps too.
